On Friday, August 5, 2011, instructors from the Remington College – Shreveport Campus Criminal Justice Department held an in-service training meeting of the Juvenile Court for Caddo Parish. This all-day event hosted 35 of the court’s staff and probation officers.

The morning consisted of team-building skills presented by the Juvenile Court’s Director of Probation, followed by lunch. Afterward, the Shreveport Criminal Justice instructor team presented three group training sessions:

Session 1 – “The Five Rules of Crime Scene Investigations,” hosted by Instructors Mark Rogers and Randal Serrette.

Session 2 – “Laser Shot: Successful Completion of Real-World Scenarios with One Shot, One Kill” (proper shooting technique), presented by Instructors Horace Spratley and Mike McConnell.

Session 3 – “Handcuffing Using ASP Tactical Handcuffs: Basic Tactical Handcuffing Certification,” led by Instructor Rick Melancon and Department Chair Mara Elliott.

All participants received certificates in each area of training.

Laurie McGehee, the Manager of Probation Services for Caddo Parish Juvenile Services, commented, “The in-service training and staff retreat at Remington College was so well organized, and we appreciate the Remington staff taking the time to offer training and interesting programs to our juvenile probation staff.”

Shreveport Criminal Justice Department Chair Mara Elliott said, “My mission was to promote our Criminal Justice Program, and the school as a whole, in the community and spread the word about what we have to offer. Mission accomplished! I heard statements like, ‘I drive past here every day and didn’t know Remington was here,’ ‘Wow, your campus is nice,’ ‘I didn’t realize you’ve had a Criminal Justice degree program here. I’m sure going to recommend other people here,’ and ‘I didn’t realize you had all these great guys working for you.’ And by the way, all of our instructors came in on their day off on Friday to do this. Talk about dedication and loyalty!”

Ms. McGehee added, “The staff members are all very professional and knowledgeable. We all had a great time and a great experience.”
