  • Giving Back: Cleveland Campus Helps Displaced Workers

On May 16 and 23, 2009, instructor Gordie Dodson, from Remington College – Cleveland Campus, partnered with a team from the Nordonia Hills YMCA and the Church of the Hills, in Northfield, Ohio, to help give displaced local workers a chance to revisit and enhance their job-hunting skills.

This worthwhile initiative, called “Step to Hope,” was created by Randy Chestnutt, pastor at the Church of the Hills, to help displaced job seekers re-enter the work force. Gordie was part of a team of volunteers who provided training in practical topics such as refining résumés, honing interviewing skills, developing a list of personal references, and assessing current job skills to determine whether additional education might be needed.

The initial set of training sessions was held on Campus from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Because of the response from the local community, even past the sign-up deadline, another session is being planned for this summer.
