John Rohal, Chairperson of the Pharmacy Technician diploma program at our Cleveland, Ohio college, delivered 400 tubes of lip balm to Cleveland’s VFW Post 387 on Veterans Day, November 11, 2010. The donation was accepted by Post 387 auxiliary chapter president, LeAnn Christner. Pharmacy Tech student Shakira Bentley, a U.S. Army veteran, is shown making the lip balm in her PHAT142 Compounding class. She and Mr. Rohal created the compound for the lip balm and packaged it into individual tubes. The tubes included room for family members to write short handwritten messages to their loved ones in the military. The product was made on Veterans Day and shipped to Afghanistan on the following Saturday. VFW Post 387 was grateful to Remington College – Cleveland East Campus because the lip balm will be particularly useful for military veterans in the dry, arid conditions existing in that region of the world. W.B. Bates II, Cleveland Campus Director of Education and a U.S. Marine veteran, said, “We want the men and women serving this country to know that we care about the sacrifices they make to keep this country safe, and this lip balm is a small token of our appreciation for their service.”
