  • Pharmacy Tech Training Facilities, Equipment, and More at Cleveland East

Remington College in Cleveland was the first Campus to offer the Pharmacy Technician program. The facilities at Cleveland feature a computer lab adjacent to a large lecture classroom.

The lab is divided into two teaching sections: One half is a mock hospital pharmacy, and the other half is a mock retail pharmacy.

    • The mock retail pharmacy is set up to train students to completely fill a simulated prescription from beginning to end. Extemporaneous compounding equipment and preparation are also a part of the mock retail pharmacy training, which begins in the first half of our program.
    • The mock hospital pharmacy accommodates students in pairs as they practice all aspects of the aseptic technique and the preparation of intravenous admixtures. Hospital pharmacy training begins in the later portion of our Cleveland Pharmacy Tech training program.

Pharmacy Tech students are exposed to many types of pharmacy equipment and tools of the trade throughout our program.

Our students also work with a variety of compounding agents similar to those technicians use in actual practice, such as isopropyl alcohol, witch hazel, reconstitutables, faux medication additives, coconut oil, shea butter, glycerin, mineral oil, assorted flavorings, methyl cellulose, methyl salicylate, ascorbic acid, lanolin, petroleum, and so much more.

Life as a Cleveland Pharmacy Technician Student:

    • Many students have commented that they especially enjoy the Anatomy and Physiology class, where they familiarize themselves with the function of different body systems and with medical terminology.
    • As part of their instruction, our students at Cleveland are required to complete a project known as “Call in Sick,” where they must research a medical condition that would prohibit them from attending school or work and provide an oral “excuse” in front of the class using no less than five medical terms. The class must determine what the presenter’s medical condition is – and bonus points go to any students who can stump their instructor.
    • Extemporaneous compounding is another current student favorite. In this class, students make flavored lip balms, lotions, and hand creams using the needed compounds and fragrances. Our students enjoy taking these products home and presenting them to others students and instructors. In fact, they’ve also shipped the lip balm to soldiers stationed in Iraq!
    • Students can also participate in “Be the Match,” a bone marrow donor-matching program, give blood during our Campus’s regular blood drives, and donate “vials of life” at our open houses and job fairs.
