Cosmetology Students at Houston Southeast Campus Learn About the World of Beauty at the Armstrong-McCall Hair and Make-Up Show Contributed by Andrea Green, Campus Librarian On Saturday, May 21, 2011, 26 students in the Cosmetology Program at our Remington College - Houston Southeast Campus participated in the Armstrong-McCall Hair and Make-Up Show, held at Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas. Our students enjoyed themselves and gained valuable experience in styling, modeling, retailing, and applying make-up for Matrix, the show's sponsor. Matrix beauty and styling products are used in many of the Remington College Cosmetology Programs, including Houston Southeast. Once our Cosmetology students pass a series of Matrix technical assessments, they can receive a certificate signifying their achievement in the advanced color, texture, and cutting techniques of the Matrix C.R.A.F.T. Program. Students Work with the Pros Houston Southeast Cosmetology student Ms. Joey Schoppe was one of three primary make-up artists chosen by Matrix via an audition process to work backstage with the models. Joey commented, "Make-up is what brought me to Remington to study cosmetology. Working directly with professional Matrix stylists and satisfying their design projects was an outstanding, fulfilling experience. This was definitely a powerful step on a marvelous journey." Students also worked backstage apply color and perform blow-dry styling and shampooing. Ten of our students were chosen to be hair models for Matrix, while the other students were called on to help sell products and assist in various retail activities on the show floor. It was an awesome event for them."
