• Florida Basic X-Ray Machine Operator License Exam

    Your tuition for the Medical Assisting with X-Ray Tech (Limited Scope) program includes the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam.(1) Remington College also pays for your first attempt at the Basic X-Ray Machine Operator (BXMO) certification, and the related application fee.(1) Passing the BXMO exam and obtaining certification are required in order to practice as a Basic X-Ray Machine Operator in Florida. Remington College requires that you pass your CCMA exam in order to successfully complete your final academic course, and once you graduate, you can take the BXMO exam.(1)

    The Basic X-Ray Machine Operator licensure is offered through the Florida Department of Health (FDH). The State of Florida requires than an individual must be a licensed practitioner or a certificate holder to administer x-ray or other types of ionizing radiation to humans.

    The BXMO is for individuals who have passed the Florida radiologic technology certification exam.

    • Applicants must first apply for the BXMO through the Florida Department of Health (FDH). Applications are available on the FDH website. Completed applications and application fee must be mailed to:

    • Once your application has been received and approved by the FDH you will receive a letter of eligibility from the Florida Certification Office.
    • Approved applicants will need to register for the Florida radiologic technology certification exam with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) on www.staterhc.org. The exam fee and a copy of the eligibility letter received from the Florida Certification Office must be mailed to:

    • You may obtain your test scores 7-14 days after your examination, and will be available online through the Florida Department of Health. Once you pass the exam, it may take 2 weeks for your license to be processed and updated in the online search database. You may begin working as soon as the online system indicates your license is active, and you will be mailed a printed copy of your license a few days later.

    Additionally, if you meet the requirements, you may wish to pay for and take these phlebotomy and EKG certifications on your own. All of these certifications are accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), which was created by the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE):

    • Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT), offered by American Medical Technologists
    • Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT), offered by the National Center for Competency Testing
    • EKG Technician Certification (CET), offered by the National Heathcareer Association
    • ECG Technician (NCET), offered by the National Center for Competency Testing
