"Operation 1,000" Volunteer Drive a Success at Fort Worth Campus The Fort Worth Campus is proud to announce that it has surpassed the 1,000-hour mark and has reached an impressive 1,318 combined hours of volunteer service for the months of January and February 2011. Achievement and Leadership Mark Rick Slezak's Tenure at Fort Worth Campus Rick Slezak is a six-time award-winning Star Instructor at our Fort Worth Campus. Having joined Remington College – Fort Worth Campus in 2008 as an adjunct business instructor, Mr. Slezak currently teaches Packaged Applications, a core course for our Criminal Justice and Digital Graphic Art students.... Allied Health Students at Fort Worth Campus Focus on Certification Representing our Medical Assisting with X-Ray (Limited Scope)/EKG and Medical Billing and Coding programs, a group of 51 Fort Worth Campus Allied Health students accepted the challenge, studied hard, and prepared to take one of the following certification exams on May 20, 2011: coding, medical assisting, EKG, or phlebotomy. "Passing my certification exam will allow me to have more opportunities in the medical field," said MA-X student Julieta Serano. Award-Winning Digital Graphic Art Instructor Garry Harman has been a Remington College – Fort Worth Campus Digital Graphic Art instructor since 2004. He came to Remington College with more than 38 years of experience in various forms of graphic design and marketing. Biannual Mock Clinic at Fort Worth The Fort Worth Campus Health Sciences Department held its biannual Mock Clinic on September 13,2011. The Mock Clinic is an opportunity for students in our Fort Worth Health Sciences programs to interact with one another and practice their skills in settings that simulate an actual work environment. Blood Drive Dallas Fort Worth September 2011 Blood – it may all be red, but it's definitely not all the same. That's why Remington College is continuing its series of blood drives to recruit more minority blood donors to benefit local residents who need specific types of blood as part of their treatment for sickle cell disease and other blood disorders. Cowboy Santa Distributes Toys to Children from Fort Worth College Students As Thanksgiving approached and the Christmas season was just weeks away, the faculty, staff, and students of Remington College in Fort Worth began their children's toy drive to benefit the local Cowboy Santa program. Dental Assisting Mindi Dawson Award from TDAA Lois Solomon Scholarship Remington College - Fort Worth Dental Assisting Student Mindi Dawson was delighted to discover that she was the recipient of the Texas Dental Assistants Association's (TDAA's) Lois K. Solomon Dental Assisting Scholarship, in the amount of $500. On May 7, 2011, Mindi and her two children, Nicolette and Ryan, accepted an invitation by Ronda V. Lane, TDAA Scholarship Chairperson, to attend the TDAA Annual Session in San Antonio, Texas, and accept her award. "I was very excited to attend a TDAA meeting, and I met members from all over Texas and from my local Fort Worth Chapter," said Mindi. Fan Drive Means a Cooler Summer for Meals on Wheels Recipients That was literally the case in June of this year, when the Campus held a two-week drive to collect portable fans and contributions for local citizens and families in need. Fort Worth Campus Exceeds Volunteer Hours Pledged for January as Part of "Operation 1,000" Students and employees at Remington College – Fort Worth Campus accepted a pledge to offer at least one thousand hours of volunteer service for the month, and their hard work and dedication helped them to exceed that goal.... Fort Worth Campus Inaugural Safe Smiles Event On June 11, 2011, Remington College – Fort Worth Campus and its Dental Assisting program held its first-ever "Safe Smiles" event, which provided an opportunity for local families to help protect and enhance their overall oral health. Fort Worth Celebrates Constitution Day Our Fort Worth Campus celebrated Constitution Day on September 15, 2011, by distributing voter registration cards and encouraging students to register to vote. Fort Worth College Becomes Certifying Organization for President's Volunteer Service Award Remington College – Fort Worth Campus has recently become a certifying organization for distribution of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA). The award recognizes individuals who have achieved a standard in the number of hours of volunteer service provided over a 12-month period. Fort Worth College Commemorates the Service of Its Veterans on Campus On November 11, 2010, Remington College's Fort Worth Campus Director of Education Don McLaughlin and Senior Student Finance Associate Anabel Romero-Juarez coordinated a Veterans Day event to recognize and thank Fort Worth Campus students and employees who have served in the U.S. military. Fort Worth College Helps Inspire Kids to Read by Donating Books to the Texas Scottish Rite Children's Hospital Continuing their tradition of giving back to those in need in the local community, our Fort Worth College held an on-Campus book drive from October 26 to December 15, to benefit the children... Fort Worth College Students Chow Down for the American Cancer Society The outpouring of support shown by our Fort Worth college students was touching, and at the end of the day, they felt great about helping to make a difference in the lives of those still on the road to recovery. Fort Worth College Students Participate in Important Holiday Blood Donations From June through December 2010, a total of 282 donors from the Fort Worth Campus participated in Carter Blood Care blood drives. In total,202 whole blood units were donated by Remington College students,faculty, and staff. Fort Worth Criminal Justice Student Edgar Gonzalez Named 2009's "Outstanding Performer of the Year" Edgar Gonzalez, a Criminal Justice associate's degree student at Remington College – Fort Worth Campus, has been selected as the 2009 "Outstanding Performer of the Year" among all operatives at the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Fort Worth Criminal Justice Students Face Off in the Second Annual Criminal Justice Olympics Among the events was one called Facial Recognition, which allows the user to create and re-create billions of composite images of human faces. Facial features selected from a database are automatically combined to produce a photo-quality composite image. The technology helps law enforcement agencies identify, track, and apprehend suspects. Fort Worth Criminal Justice Students Get Hands-On SWAT Demonstration The Fort Worth Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team recently visited our Criminal Justice students at our Fort Worth, Texas College for an educational lecture and equipment demonstration. Fort Worth Dental Assisting Students and Faculty See New Procedures, Products at 2011 Southwest Dental Conference All Dental Assisting faculty members and students at Remington College – Fort Worth Campus were pleased to attend this year's Southwest Dental Conference, held on January 13 to 15, 2011, and sponsored by the Dallas Dental Society and the American Dental Association. Fort Worth Extern Coordinators Shannon Horton and Christine Blackwell Recognized for Exemplary Service Fort Worth Externship Coordinators Shannon Horton and Christine Blackwell received a "Contract Contest 2010" award, gaining second place for securing 25 new externship sites in just a few months. Fort Worth Fight Against Cancer at 2011 Relay For Life Each year, Remington College – Fort Worth employees participate in supporting the work of the American Cancer Society (ACS), and 2011 marked the Campus's third year of participation in the ACS "Relay For Life" event. This annual event gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. Because cancer never sleeps, the Relays are overnight and sometimes last up to 24 hours. Fort Worth Students Join Bone Marrow Registry The National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP) and the Be The Match® Foundation are nonprofit organizations dedicated to creating an opportunity for all patients to receive the bone marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant they need, when they need it. Fort Worth, Texas Adopt Our School Winner - Elkins Elementary School Elkins Elementary School received the most votes in Remington College's Adopt Our School program for the Fort Worth area, an effort by Remington College to assist local public schools with up to $2,000 worth of school supplies. Fort Worth's Western Hills Elementary wins Remington College 2011 "Adopt Our School" Vote Western Hills Elementary School received the most votes in Remington College's Adopt Our School program,an effort by Remington College to assist local public schools with up to $2,000 worth of school supplies. The winning school was chosen by the public through Facebook and text message voting. Graduate Danielle Smallwood Shares Her Story with Students Danielle Smallwood began her education in Louisiana at our former Remington College –New Orleans Campus.
