Commitment & Care Define Our Fort Worth College

The Fort Worth Campus is proud to announce that it has surpassed the 1,000-hour mark and has reached an impressive 1,318 combined hours of volunteer service for the months of January and February 2011.

Rick Slezak is a six-time award-winning Star Instructor at our Fort Worth Campus. Having joined Remington College – Fort Worth Campus in 2008 as an adjunct business instructor, Mr. Slezak currently teaches Packaged Applications, a core course for our Criminal Justice and Digital Graphic Art students....

Representing our Medical Assisting with X-Ray (Limited Scope)/EKG and Medical Billing and Coding programs, a group of 51 Fort Worth Campus Allied Health students accepted the challenge, studied hard, and prepared to take one of the following certification exams on May 20, 2011: coding, medical assisting, EKG, or phlebotomy. “Passing my certification exam will allow me to have more opportunities in the medical field,” said MA-X student Julieta Serano.

Garry Harman has been a Remington College – Fort Worth Campus Digital Graphic Art instructor since 2004. He came to Remington College with more than 38 years of experience in various forms of graphic design and marketing.  

The Fort Worth Campus Health Sciences Department held its biannual Mock Clinic on September 13,2011.  The Mock Clinic is an opportunity for students in our Fort Worth Health Sciences programs to interact with one another and practice their skills in settings that simulate an actual work environment.  

Blood – it may all be red, but it’s definitely not all the same. That’s why Remington College is continuing its series of blood drives to recruit more minority blood donors to benefit local residents who need specific types of blood as part of their treatment for sickle cell disease and other blood disorders.

As Thanksgiving approached and the Christmas season was just weeks away, the faculty, staff, and students of Remington College in Fort Worth began their children’s toy drive to benefit the local Cowboy Santa program.

Remington College – Fort Worth Dental Assisting Student Mindi Dawson was delighted to discover that she was the recipient of the Texas Dental Assistants Association’s (TDAA’s) Lois K. Solomon Dental Assisting Scholarship, in the amount of $500. On May 7, 2011, Mindi and her two children, Nicolette and Ryan, accepted an invitation by Ronda V. Lane, TDAA Scholarship Chairperson, to attend the TDAA Annual Session in San Antonio, Texas, and accept her award. “I was very excited to attend a TDAA meeting, and I met members from all over Texas and from my local Fort Worth Chapter,” said Mindi.

That was literally the case in June of this year, when the Campus held a two-week drive to collect portable fans and contributions for local citizens and families in need.

Students and employees at Remington College – Fort Worth Campus accepted a pledge to offer at least one thousand hours of volunteer service for the month, and their hard work and dedication helped them to exceed that goal....

On June 11, 2011, Remington College – Fort Worth Campus and its Dental Assisting program held its first-ever “Safe Smiles” event, which provided an opportunity for local families to help protect and enhance their overall oral health.

Our Fort Worth Campus celebrated Constitution Day on September 15, 2011, by distributing voter registration cards and encouraging students to register to vote.

Remington College – Fort Worth Campus has recently become a certifying organization for distribution of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA). The award recognizes individuals who have achieved a standard in the number of hours of volunteer service provided over a 12-month period.

On November 11, 2010, Remington College's Fort Worth Campus Director of Education Don McLaughlin and Senior Student Finance Associate Anabel Romero-Juarez coordinated a Veterans Day event to recognize and thank Fort Worth Campus students and employees who have served in the U.S. military.

Continuing their tradition of giving back to those in need in the local community, our Fort Worth College held an on-Campus book drive from October 26 to December 15, to benefit the children...

The outpouring of support shown by our Fort Worth college students was touching, and at the end of the day, they felt great about helping to make a difference in the lives of those still on the road to recovery.

From June through December 2010, a total of 282 donors from the Fort Worth Campus participated in Carter Blood Care blood drives. In total, 202 whole blood units were donated by Remington College students, faculty, and staff.

Edgar Gonzalez, a Criminal Justice associate’s degree student at Remington College – Fort Worth Campus, has been selected as the 2009 “Outstanding Performer of the Year” among all operatives at the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).

Among the events was one called Facial Recognition, which allows the user to create and re-create billions of composite images of human faces. Facial features selected from a database are automatically combined to produce a photo-quality composite image. The technology helps law enforcement agencies identify, track, and apprehend suspects.

The Fort Worth Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team recently visited our Criminal Justice students at our Fort Worth, Texas College for an educational lecture and equipment demonstration.

All Dental Assisting faculty members and students at Remington College – Fort Worth Campus were pleased to attend this year’s Southwest Dental Conference, held on January 13 to 15, 2011, and sponsored by the Dallas Dental Society and the American Dental Association.

Fort Worth Externship Coordinators Shannon Horton and Christine Blackwell received a “Contract Contest 2010” award, gaining second place for securing 25 new externship sites in just a few months. Ms. Horton commented, “It’s all about getting out in the community and meeting the professionals in your field.”

Each year, Remington College – Fort Worth employees participate in supporting the work of the American Cancer Society (ACS), and 2011 marked the Campus’s third year of participation in the ACS “Relay For Life” event. This annual event gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. Because cancer never sleeps, the Relays are overnight and sometimes last up to 24 hours.

Like all of our campuses do, the instructors and staff at our Fort Worth Campus like to brag about their students’ successes.

 The National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP) and the Be The Match® Foundation are nonprofit organizations dedicated to creating an opportunity for all patients to receive the bone marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant they need, when they need it.  

Elkins Elementary School received the most votes in Remington College’s Adopt Our School program for the Fort Worth area, an effort by Remington College to assist local public schools with up to $2,000 worth of school supplies.

Western Hills Elementary School received the most votes in Remington College’s Adopt Our School program, an effort by Remington College to assist local public schools with up to $2,000 worth of school supplies. The winning school was chosen by the public through Facebook and text message voting.

Danielle Smallwood began her education in Louisiana at our former Remington College – New Orleans Campus. After disaster struck in the form of Hurricane Katrina, Danielle and her husband, John, moved to Fort Worth to continue their educational goals.

The week of March 6 through 12, 2011, marked the 33rd annual National Dental Assistants Recognition Week. This commemorative week recognizes and acknowledges the contributions and efforts of dental assistants and the vital role they play on the dental health care team.

It takes a special person to be able to inspire and encourage students to push themselves higher every day. Medical Assisting with X-Ray and EKG Instructor Elisabeth Sewell, and Computer and Network Administration Instructors Jared Parker and Diane Miller, are three such people.

Recognizing that the family is one of the most important units in society, Remington College – Fort Worth Campus encourages family involvement throughout the process of enrolling in school, attending classes, and ultimately, graduating.

Ft. Worth, TX – (July 31, 2009) – Remington College-Ft. Worth Campus will hold an open house on August 8th to allow community members to see what the campus has to offer. From 10 am to 2 pm, the public can tour the campus, meet instructors, view hands-on demonstrations and learn more about financial aid available for those who qualify.

As a cosmetology student at Remington College – Fort Worth Campus, Chakina Watkins had the goal of one day opening her own salon. Ms. Watkins wasted little time in achieving her goal, graduating with her diploma in September 2009 and opening her own salon just a week later.*

Remington College-Fort Worth Campus has partnered with KTXA-TV to host a job fair on September 24th from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Remington College - Fort Worth Campus is continuing its series of blood drives to recruit more minority blood donors to benefit DFW residents in need of blood.

Home health care is a segment of the medical assisting field that may offer career opportunities with flexible hours. It may also give workers a sense of satisfaction as they assist the elderly or confined who wish to live at home and are in need of a helping hand. The 2010 Remington College – Fort Worth holiday party featured food, fun, photos, and prizes as Campus administrators handed out several gift certificates for a holiday dinner from a local restaurant called Luby’s. The gift certificates were good for a family of 4 to 6 people, including all of the side dishes for a perfect holiday meal.

It doesn’t take a lot to make someone’s day, especially if that someone is currently in a nursing and rehabilitation center. Our Fort Worth Campus recently made a regular day just a little sunnier for Lake Worth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center residents. Click the story link to find out what made the residents smile!

Fort Worth Dental Assisting student Shaketa Ward had just finished her family’s spring cleaning and wanted to donate the items she had accumulated to benefit single mothers and their children.

Our Fort Worth students are encouraged to participate in the Campus's Dress for Success events, which take place each quarter at the Campus. The events aim to increase our students' awareness of how they present themselves to future employers....

Life happens. It’s how you deal with what happens that helps to define who you are. On March 8, 2011, Fort Worth Police Officer Harold Cussnick and his police dog named Kelev addressed 20 of our Fort Worth Criminal Justice students, along with their instructor James Johansen and Degree Department Chair Scott Cogswell.
