Our Houston Pharmacy Tech School
As a student in our pharmacy technician school program, your instruction includes learning how to write simulated prescriptions and then giving those scripts to other Health Sciences students, who act as “patients” as they drop off and pick up their “prescriptions” from you!
Our retail mock pharmacy area simulates an actual pharmacy setting and includes four stations:
- Drop-off and pick-up
- Transcribing and calculation
- Data entry
- Filling and packaging
During the second half of the Houston Pharmacy Tech training program, you’ll be part of a rotating schedule that moves you and your classmates from one station to the next, until each of you have completed the duties of each station.
Our hospital mock pharmacy area simulates an in-patient setting and consists of three stations:
- Transcribing and calculation
- Data entry
- Filling and packaging with a delivery cart
In this hospital-like setting, you’ll practice how to complete mock prescriptions according to the station schedule and deliver them to other participating classrooms using a delivery cart.
Ideally, 8 to 10 students are in the pharmacy at one time, but our setting can accommodate up to 14 students. Anywhere from 25 to 50 mock prescriptions are available for you to work with, depending on class size.
If you’re like most of our Pharmacy Technician college students, you’ll especially enjoy the Sterile Parental and Extemporaneous Compounding classes and the mock pharmacy project because of the hands-on activities and the real-world practice you can receive.
