Community can donate blood to help cover medical bills for popular employee, boost local blood supply

Lafayette, La. – (January 19, 2010) – Remington College – Lafayette Campus is partnering with Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital to hold a community blood drive to help out a Remington College employee who is battling a serious medical condition. The local community is encouraged to take part in the February 25th blood drive, which will be held from 8 am to 2 pm and 5 pm to 7 pm on the Remington College-Lafayette Campus located at 303 Rue Louis XIV.

Donald “Al” Alexander has been a janitor with Remington College – Lafayette Campus since 2007. He became ill in October and has been hospitalized and unable to work. His medical treatment is extensive and costly.

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital will donate $27 to Mr. Alexander for each pint of blood given at the Remington College drive and the funds will be used to help Alexander cover a portion of his medical bills.

Al is also known around Lafayette as an artist. His portraits, prints and posters can be found in many homes in the area.

“Al has always done a great job taking care of our campus, now it’s our turn to help take care of him,” said Jo Ann Boudreaux, Remington College – Lafayette Campus President. “We are encouraging the community to donate blood and join us in an effort that benefits both Al and the Lafayette community.”
