The Pharmacy Technician Diploma Program provides training in the basic elements of the field of pharmacy such as medical abbreviations, prescription writing and interpretation, drug forms and routes of administration, sterile product mixtures and compounding, as well as developing relationships between the pharmacist and the pharmacy technician. The objective of this Program is to prepare graduates for entry-level positions such as pharmacy technician, pharmacy service representative, outpatient pharmacy technician, and inpatient pharmacy technician in work locations such as retail or mail-order pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted-living facilities.
Program completion normally requires 49 weeks of instruction for full-time students, which are delivered over a 53 week period that includes scheduled break times. The Program is divided into 12 monthly academic periods (modules) comprised of 11 months of classroom/laboratory instruction and one200 hour externship period.
In order to be eligible for the externship period, students must successfully complete all courses in the academic periods and must have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
Students enrolling in the Pharmacy Technician Program will be subject to one or more background check(s) and drug screening(s). The state of South Carolina requires pharmacy technicians to be registered. Additional information is available at http://www.llr.state.sc.us/pol/pharmacy/.
Upon successful completion of all areas of this Program, graduates will be awarded a Diploma in Pharmacy Technician.
Registration shows employers that a Pharmacy Technician has met his or her state's requirements to work in a pharmacy, handle prescription drugs, and work with patients. In many states, graduates must be registered with their state's Board of Pharmacy before pursuing employment.
For states that require such registration, Remington College will pay for each of our Pharmacy Technician graduate's State Board of Pharmacy registration fee upon successful completion of the program.
How to Get Your Certifications
Prior to graduating from the program, Remington College requires that students pass both the Sterile Products Certification exam and a nationally accredited Pharmacy Technician Certification exam.(1) Accordingly, all graduates from the Pharmacy Technician program at Remington College will hold at least two certifications. During the Pharmacy Technician program, students will also have a chance to earn their Extemporaneous Compounding certification.(1) There is no additional cost to students for the certification examinations, which are included in the cost of the program.(1,2)
Remington College believes that obtaining these two certifications serves to assure both graduates and employers that Remington College graduates have received an education that has adequately equipped them for the duties and responsibilities of a pharmacy technician, and may help distinguish them from other job applicants.(2)
(1)Certain restrictions may apply.
(2)Employment is not guaranteed for students or graduates. State licensure/certification may be required..
