Our program can be completed in as few as 9 months and teaches students medical billing and coding systems and tools such as International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding Systems (HCPCS), and more.

Students train with industry-standard software programs like Medisoft and SpringCharts, developing their skill with electronic health records (EHRs). And the program ends with an externship, allowing students a chance to work with healthcare professionals in real job settings.(3)

  • Community events include participation in Shreveport-area food bank drives; events sponsored by the local Shriners and March of Dimes chapters; involvement in activities like breast cancer awareness, National Night Out, and Bags Not Rags; and the collection of school supplies for the needy.

Program Summary
The Medical Billing and Coding Diploma Program provides training in the basic elements of coding for the healthcare and insurance industries. The curriculum covers medical terminology and abbreviations, computerized medical billing, medical records management, compliance, and coding for medical office applications and hospital applications.
The objective of this Program is to prepare graduates for entry-level positions such as insurance billing clerk, medical biller,
and collections and billing clerk.
Program completion normally requires nine months for full-time students.
The Medical Billing and Coding Diploma Program is divided into eight monthly academic periods and one externship period. Students must successfully complete the academic periods with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 in order to be eligible to participate in the externship period.
Graduates may qualify to take the examinations to become a Certified Coding Associate (CCA) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA); and a Certified Professional Coder-Apprentice (CPC-A), Certified Professional Coder-Hospital-Apprentice (CPC-H-A), or Certified Professional Coder-Payer-Apprentice (CPC-P-A) through
American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Graduates must become members of AAPC to take the AAPC examinations. Additional information is available at

Upon successful completion of all areas of this Program, graduates will be awarded a Diploma in Medical Billing and
Coding.
Medical Billing and Coding Certification

Remington College encourages all Medical Billing and Coding diploma program students to take a certification exam. In order to help with this process, we have included the student membership fees, if required by the organizations to take the exam, and the cost of the first exam in our tuition price.

Below are descriptions of the options available to our Medical Billing and Coding students. If a student decides to pursue more than one certification, or requires a retest, then the student will be responsible for the payment and registration for each additional certification and exam fee.

Medical Coding Certifications(1)

Certified Coding Associate
The Certified Coding Associate (CCA) certification is available from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). The AHIMA was founded in 1928 to improve health record quality and administers certifications that are nationally accepted.

Obtaining a CCA certificate demonstrates coding competency in both hospitals and physician-based settings. The CCA is an entry-level coding credential designed to help new coders exhibit efficiency in areas such as:

  • Health records and data content
  • Clinical classification systems and coding guidelines
  • Privacy, confidentiality, legal, and ethical issues
