Shelby County Medical Assisting School and Phlebotomy Training

Our Medical Assistant training program in Memphis has a large presence on Campus, with several labs and classrooms devoted to the program.

As a Medical Assisting student, you'll train with an array of medical equipment such as the following:

    • Blood pressure units
    • Otoscopes to examine the ear
    • Ophthalmoscopes to examine the eye
    • Phlebotomy equipment for drawing blood
    • Mannequins for practicing CPR
    • Autoclaves to sterilize surgical instruments such as hemostats, scissors, tweezers, scalpels
    • Wheelchairs, walkers, and crutches for patient rehabilitation
    • And more!

You can build your skills with training in phlebotomy procedures, injections, vital signs, throat cultures, glucose/cholesterol testing, urinalyses, electronic health records, and more.

    Healthcare Laboratory Experiences in Memphis

You'll attend labs four days a week, for all of your modules. This should give you plenty of time to sharpen your administrative and clinical skills.(2)

During the labs, you'll take part in scenarios designed to build your communication and critical-thinking skills in different medical situations.

Our labs are often set up as mock clinics run by our Medical Assisting students. Students from other programs visit the clinics and are “treated” as mock patients.

    Memphis Medical Assistant Certification

Included in the cost of tuition is the first attempt of the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam. (3,5)

Medical Assisting program graduates may also be eligible for other certification and licensure opportunities.
