Michelle Parks, a recent Remington College Dental Assisting graduate at our Nashville Campus, was recently honored with a student achievement award and a Juliette A. Southard/Oral-B Scholarship presented by the American Dental Assisting Association (ADAA).Michelle is one of just 10 recipients nationwide to receive an award and scholarship from the ADAA in 2011. Her scholarship award is in the amount of $750.ADAA Award and Scholarship CriteriaThe achievement award is presented to the ADAA student member who has shown the most outstanding performance at a dental assisting school.And the scholarships, named for the founder of the ADAA and established in 1929, are awarded to dental assisting students and dental assistants interested in furthering their education in the field of dental assisting.Award candidates are considered on the basis of academic achievement, leadership, ability, and interest in the career of dental assisting. Candidates must also be members of the ADAA and at least halfway through their dental assisting program or applicable courses aimed at furthering a career in dental assisting.Reaction to the ADAA Award and ScholarshipNashville Dental Assisting Department Chair Latonya Irons nominated Michelle because she has been an active member of the ADAA and was a great student with an excellent academic and attendance record. “I was surprised and honored to receive this award,” said Michelle.Ms. Irons said, “It was no surprise to me when Michelle won because she has a great work ethic, and her hard work has paid off. And I was particularly proud that Michelle was chosen for this prestigious award because she is the first Remington College student to be selected for this honor from the Nashville Campus.”In July, Michelle began her new career as a Registered Dental Assistant at the same orthodontic office where she completed her externship.Remington College congratulates Michelle on her outstanding achievements!
