• Who should become a registered Pharmacy Technician?

    Registration shows employers that a Pharmacy Technician has met his or her state's requirements to work in a pharmacy, handle prescription drugs, and work with patients. Graduates must be registered with their state's Board of Pharmacy before pursuing employment.

    Remington College will pay for each of our Pharmacy Technician graduate's State Board of Pharmacy registration fee upon successful completion of the program.

    Pharmacy Technician Registration State Requirements

    Many states require that Pharmacy Technicians acquire registration with the state Board of Pharmacy prior to becoming employed as a Pharmacy Technician. Below are the requirements for each state in which Remington College has a Pharmacy Technician training program.

    Alabama Pharmacy Technician Registration Requirements:

    Pharmacy Technicians in the state of Alabama must submit an application to the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy requesting registration as a pharmacy technician, pay the registration fee, and receive registration certification prior to working in a pharmacy.

    2. Completed application and registration fee must be mailed to the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy:

    Remington College – Mobile Campus will pay the Pharmacy Technician registration fee for all students graduating from the Pharmacy Technician diploma program. Students who wish to take advantage of this scholarship must apply for registration within 90 days after their graduation date.

    Arkansas Pharmacy Technician Registration Requirements:

    Pharmacy Technicians in the state of Arkansas must submit an application for pharmacy technician registration to the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy prior to working in a pharmacy.

    1. Applicants must contact the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy at asbp@arkansas.gov, and provide your mailing address, to request a Pharmacy Technician Registration Application.
    2. Completed application and registration fee must be mailed to the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy:

    Remington College – Little Rock Campus will pay the Pharmacy Technician registration fee for all students graduating from the Pharmacy Technician diploma program. Students who wish to take advantage of this scholarship must apply for registration within 90 days after their graduation date.

    Colorado Pharmacy Technician Registration Requirements:

    The state of Colorado does not require any additional registration to gain employment as a Pharmacy Technician.

    Louisiana Pharmacy Technician Registration Requirements:

    In order to perform pharmacy technician duties, individuals must have an active Pharmacy Technician Candidate Registration with the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. This registration requires taking and passing the examination administered by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

    Once you obtain your Pharmacy Technician Candidate Registration, it is required to obtain 600 hours of practical experience under the supervision of a pharmacist, which is satisfied by completing an externship with Remington College's Pharmacy Technician diploma program. Upon completion of the practical experience, applicants must apply for the Louisiana Pharmacy Technician Certificate.

    2. Completed application and registration fee must be mailed to the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy:

    1. Candidate Registration is valid for 18 months after the date issued. Applicants have these 18 months to complete 600 hours of practical experience. Registrations cannot be renewed or extended and expire at the end of the 18 months. Remington College Pharmacy Technician students obtain these hours during the program's externship.
    2. Upon completion of the 600 supervised hours, applicants must complete the Louisiana Pharmacy Technician Certificate application. Applications are available on the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy website (www.labp.com).
    3. Completed application and fee must be mailed to the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy:

    Pharmacy Technician Candidate Registration fee: $25

    Pharmacy Technician Certification fee: $100

    Remington College – Baton Rouge Campus, Remington College – Lafayette Campus, Remington College – Shreveport Campus will pay the Pharmacy Technician Candidate Registration fee and the Pharmacy Technician Certification fee for all students graduating from the Pharmacy Technician diploma program. Students who wish to take advantage of this scholarship must apply for certification within 90 days after their graduation date.

    Ohio Pharmacy Technician Registration Requirements:

    There is no legal requirement to be licensed, registered, or certified as a Pharmacy Technician in the state of Ohio.

    However, in order to be a Pharmacy Technician a person must pass an examination approved by the State Board of Pharmacy to determine a person's competency to perform services as a Pharmacy Technician.

    Passing the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination (PTCE), administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), is State Board approved and demonstrates a erson as a qualified Pharmacy Technician.     Tennessee Pharmacy Technician Registration Requirements:

    Pharmacy Technicians in the state of Tennessee must submit an application to the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy requesting registration as a pharmacy technician, pay the registration fee, and receive registration certification prior to working in a pharmacy.

    Remington College – Memphis Campus and Remington College – Nashville Campus will pay the Pharmacy Technician registration fee for all students graduating from the Pharmacy Technician diploma program. Students who wish to take advantage of this scholarship must apply for registration within 90 days after their graduation date.

    Texas Pharmacy Technician Registration Requirements:

    In order to perform duties in a pharmacy, including technician duties, individuals must have an active Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP). This registration requires taking and passing the examination administered by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

    1. The Registered Pharmacy Technician Application must be completed on the Texas State Board of Pharmacy website (www.tsbp.state.tx.us).
    2. Once the application is completed and submitted, you will receive instructions on how to complete a fingerprint session with L1 Identity Solutions and mail them back to the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
    3. Once your application has been approved for payment, you must submit the registration fee within 90 days. Registration fee: $83

    The following campuses will pay the Pharmacy Technician registration fee for all students graduating from the Pharmacy Technician diploma program: Remington College – Dallas Campus, Remington College – Fort Worth Campus, Remington College – Houston Campus, and Remington College – North Houston Campus. Students who wish to take advantage of this scholarship must apply for registration within 90 days after their graduation date.
