Remington College of Nursing Graduate Embarks on a New Career

Joe Wilson always had a strong interest in the medical field and a desire to help people. As an employee at Remington College’s administrative headquarters (RASI) from 2006 to 2009, Joe was a valued team member in his call center role, helping with admissions, database management, and training.

But the increasing national shortage of nurses* and the chance to become an advocate for the sick motivated Joe to pursue a BSN in Nursing. He decided to enroll in the inaugural class of Remington College of Nursing (RCON) in late 2009.

The College of Nursing’s accelerated bachelor’s degree program let me pursue my goal in a timely way and helped me gain a higher level of education (a Bachelor of Science versus an associate’s degree) than the other options available,” Joe said.

Making the transition from a technical position to nursing was a challenge, but Joe feels that his prior knowledge helped him greatly:

The staff at Remington College of Nursing showed me how I could incorporate aspects of the technical field with the nursing skills I would take with me into practice. RCON also gave me daily hands-on practice in lab and clinical environments, which really helped to augment the class content.”

Just as Joe had been a successful RASI employee, he became a dedicated student, graduating as part of the first RCON class in February 2010.

Joe also recently passed the National Comprehensive License Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and is in the middle of a critical care training program as a graduate registered nurse (GRN), in preparation for a role as a registered nurse, in the Surgical Progressive Care Unit (SPCU) at Florida Hospital. He expects to complete this training program by the end of May.

All of us at RASI and RCON are proud of Joe’s success and wish him the best in his future endeavors in the nursing profession. To learn more about Remington College’s accelerated BSN degree program, visit Remington College of Nursing.
