Remington College - Tampa Campus Celebrates Black History Month with Taste of the World
This February marked the fourth year that Remington College celebrated Black History Month at its Tampa Campus with story, song, and food.
The month-long celebration culminated on February 25, as students and staff prepared and shared their cultural dishes as part of an activity called Taste of the World.
Designed to emphasize and embrace the Campus’s multiculturalism and diversity, it also served as an opportune occasion to bring the entire Campus community together.
Selection of Cultural Artifacts
'This year, we were honored to have members of the original Negro Baseball League celebrate with us,' said Remington College - Tampa Campus President Dr. Rosalie Lampone, adding, 'These gentlemen shared their heartfelt stories, experiences, and accomplishments during very adverse times.'
They also autographed posters and interacted with students and staff. Attendees were also entertained by Cosmetology program graduate Velveteen Spivey and her husband, who sang a beautiful rendition of ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing,’ and by Medical Assisting student Jean Arnoto, who brought the house down with her rendition of ‘Alabaster Box.’
One of our international students, Evangeline Ngwashi, also graced us with a song entitled, ‘Wake Up My People.’ ” Each year, the Campus library also displays a mini-museum of cultural artifacts to instill a greater awareness of human diversity, culture, and history.
'It’s a celebration that students look forward to every year,' noted Dr. Lampone.
