Grand Opening to include American Gladiator and fitness model Beth Horn

AMERICAN GLADIATOR AND FITNESS MODEL BETH HORN TO APPEAR AT REMINGTON COLLEGE GRAND OPENING

Tampa, FL - August 8, 2008 – Beth Horn is passionate about fitness. This is evident when you talk to the former college gymnast and National Fitness Champion who portrays the character “Venom” on NBC’s American Gladiators. The charismatic Horn savors her role as Venom, but she is equally devoted to her career as a personal fitness trainer. On August 21, she will be on hand to commemorate the grand opening of a new campus and the new personal trainer certification program at Remington College in Tampa.

Remington’s new campus, which is located at 6302 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., will offer an array of career training choices for students, including the personal trainer diploma program. The nine-month program involves classroom and hands-on training at Remington’s Tampa campus and includes a week-long fitness training boot camp in Las Vegas. Horn is serving as a celebrity boot camp instructor for the Tampa campus grand opening, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“Personal training is a fulfilling career because you are making a difference in each client’s life one hour at a time. By giving them motivation and guidance, you can help your clients feel better physically and emotionally, and get fit and stay fit for the long term,” Horn said. “I never grow tired of playing a part of helping someone achieve their desired results.”

Long before she was an American Gladiator, Horn was a passionate gymnast. It was an injury she encountered when she was 15 that sparked her initial interest in the fitness industry.

“During a high school gymnastics competition my freshman year, I tore the ACL and meniscus in my right knee,” Horn explained. “The rehab led me to discover weight training. There was a fitness club next door to the sports rehab facility, and I was there every day, sometimes twice a day.

“I began teaching myself how to use weight training to get stronger and get back into gymnastics,” Horn added. “Little did I know that training others, and training on my own, would become my career.”

Horn’s gymnastics days ended when she tore the ACL in her left knee as a college gymnast at Ball State University (Indiana). Originally, she planned to attend medical school, but her ambitions changed when she started working as a personal trainer.

In 1998, while thumbing through the pages of a fitness magazine, Horn decided to prepare for competitive fitness events and also pursue fitness modeling opportunities. She adjusted her eating habits, worked with a fitness coach and transformed her body from a size 10-12 to a size 4-6 in four months. In 2000, Horn became National Fitness Champion, earning her spot as a professional fitness athlete.

This led to a role with Weider Publications as a contracted athlete, which involved touring the world and promoting health and fitness. Horn also wrote a nutrition and fitness book entitled “The Natural Way- The Holistic Guide To Total Mind-Body, Health & Fitness” and continued working as a personal trainer and a fitness model.

After competing in her final professional fitness event last September, Horn learned about auditions for American Gladiators. She earned the role of Venom, and is preparing for the show’s third season, which begins in November.

“Whether it is as a personal trainer, author, fitness competitor or Venom, I strive to serve as an inspiration and role model for people of all ages and backgrounds,” said Horn, who earned a degree in exercise physiology from Ball State. “I’m passionate about helping people take care of their body and live healthy lifestyles – spiritually, mentally and physically. This is the ultimate objective of any devoted fitness trainer.”

At Remington College’s new Tampa campus grand opening on August 21, prospective students will have the opportunity to speak with Horn, and tour the gym and facility where they can pursue a career as a personal trainer.
