Ivan Zoot Shows Tampa Cosmetology Students How It’s Done – In Record Time

Need a haircut in a hurry? Ivan Zoot’s your man. Referred to as “ClipperGuy” and the “Michael Phelps of Barbering,” Mr. Zoot set three individual haircutting world records on August 22 and 23, 2008, for fastest haircut (55 seconds), most haircuts in a single hour (34), and most consecutive haircuts in 24 hours (340).

On February 7, 2011, our Cosmetology school in Tampa had the privilege of hosting Mr. Zoot as a guest presenter. And wow, did Mr. Zoot present!

His appearance was arranged by Marissa Rosen, Tampa Cosmetology Department Chair.

Tampa Cosmetology Presentation and Demo Amazes the Crowd

“Ivan did a two-hour class for both my day students and my night students. We had the whole department watching – all students in every module,” said Ms. Rosen, adding, “Ivan was AMAZING! Funny, energetic, informative – and FAST! In fact, he should be called ‘Ivan Zoom,’ he’s so fast!”

Mr. Zoot is currently the director of education and training for the Andis Company. His presentation at Remington College - Tampa Campus included three haircut demonstrations on both male and female students. He showed how clippers can be used on females with long hair as well. And he gave students helpful and practical advice, not only on clipper cutting but also on the importance of business-building skills.

Big Impression Left on Tampa Cosmetology Students and Staff

Tampa Cosmetology student Anthony Torres said, “I thought he was cool! His clipper over comb technique was awesome.” Student Zac Smith noted, “He made a huge impression on me.”

And student Tony Carcano remarked, “It was cool to see woman’s long hair cut with clippers. He was spectacular!”

Ms. Rosen summed up the crowd’s reactions: “My students smiled throughout Ivan’s whole presentation. He really impacted them when he shared his story about how he started working with Andis. He related that he heard a lot of ‘No’s’ before he got the job. His message on believing in yourself, following your dreams, and being persistent was a powerful one for our students.”

She added, “Most of our students had heard of him – especially the men. They just loved that he was here, in person, and talking to them. The event was a great success, and I plan on bringing him back on a regular basis.”
