Tonia Lawrence, Health Sciences Department Chair for the Fort Worth Campus, represents the best of what Remington College has to offer its students. When it comes to loving what you do, it’s hard to find a person who displays as much energy, enthusiasm, and genuine passion for teaching others in the medical field as Ms. Lawrence does. She began her health care education in a Medical Assisting program in Jacksonville, Florida. After completing her training, she was employed for a number of years with Humana Insurance, where she gained valuable experience in the Processing and Claims Department. When asked why she wanted to join the Remington College team, Ms. Lawrence explained, “A co-worker told me what a great company it was to work for.” And so, she applied. From Jacksonville to Fort WorthIn April of 2005, Ms. Lawrence was offered a position with our former Jacksonville Campus as a Medical Assisting and Medical Billing and Coding Instructor, as well as a role assisting the externship coordinators in placing students.Ms. Lawrence’s positive attitude and energizing personality made her well known and well liked, and it wasn’t long before she headed west to our Fort Worth Campus, where she found yet more opportunities to grow in her field. In May of 2007, Tonia began working for our Fort Worth Campus as an instructor in our Medical Assisting and Medical Billing and Coding diploma programs.Appointment as Department ChairpersonShe was named the Health Sciences Department Chair in March of 2010. “As an instructor, I had the ability to touch the lives of students in my class, and as the Department Chair, I have been granted the opportunity to impact the decisions that affect our students as a whole. The enthusiasm of our students and the positive influences from faculty members inspire me to do my best and to show others that the possibilities in the medical field can be limitless if you work hard and focus on your goals,” said Ms. Lawrence. Her professionalism and experience in the field, along with an Associate of Science degree and several certifications including Nationally Registered Certified EKG Technician (NRCEKG), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA), and Nationally Registered Certified Coding Specialist (NRCCS), make Ms. Lawrence a dedicated, knowledgeable, and inspirational leader for the students in Fort Worth’s Health Sciences programs.
