Massage Therapy

Diploma Program: Honolulu, San Diego

The Massage Therapy Program provides training in the skills and knowledge that can help you qualify for an entry-level position as a massage therapist.

Massage therapy is a means of treating ailments, decompressing overworked muscles, reducing stress, rehabilitating sports injuries, and promoting general health. This is done by manipulating a client's soft tissues manually to improve the body's circulation. Massage therapy is practiced by trained individuals who provide specialized care with their clients' physical needs in mind.

Massage therapists can specialize in several types of massage, called modalities. Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, reflexology, sports massage, acupressure and neuromuscular massage are a few of the approaches to massage therapy.

Massage therapists work by appointment. Because massage therapists tend to specialize in only a few areas, customers are often referred to or seek a therapist for a specific type of massage. Massage therapists must build a rapport with their customers to develop a continuing and loyal clientele.

This Massage Therapy Program provides training in the basic skills and knowledge to help prepare you for entry-level positions as a Massage Therapist. The Program consists of eight learning units called modules. Once you complete the first seven modules, you will participate in an internship at the on-campus Massage Therapy Clinic. There, you will gain practical hands-on experience by performing massages on members of the general public. When you complete the Massage Therapy Program, you will be awarded a diploma and should have the basic skills and knowledge needed to begin your career in massage therapy.
