Program Summary

The Health Information Management Bachelor’s Degree Program provides training in health information management. The curriculum covers collecting and analyzing patient data, using classification systems, analyzing processes in health information systems, and managing and maintaining the integrity of health information in a variety of health-related settings. The objective of this Program is to prepare graduates for entry-level positions in the health information management field. This Program requires completion of a minimum of 180 credit hours (90 quarter credit hours in associate or lower-level coursework and 90 quarter credit hours in bachelor or upper-level coursework), including any transfer credits that have been accepted. Program completion normally requires 18 months for full-time students (assuming the student has met the prerequisite for admission). The Health Information Management Bachelor’s Degree Program is delivered in a system of six three-month quarters. Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater for professional practice eligibility. For information on the professional practice experience required to complete the program, please see the Information about the Professional Practice Experience Portion of the Health Information Technology and Health Information Management Programs section of this College Catalog. Upon successful completion of all areas of this Program, graduates will be awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Information Management(except for graduates from the state of Tennessee, who will be awarded Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Health Information Management).
