The associate degree in Medical Assisting combines hands-on training at the campus and has online courses and may allow you to work while you complete your degree in as few as 24 months.(1) Students who have previously obtained a 12 month Medical Assisting diploma(2) from Remington College can transfer 100% of their credits towards earning their degree.

 

Medical assistants play a critical role in the daily operations of doctor’s offices, clinics and hospitals. Remington College helps prepare graduating students for an entry level job in their field.(1) Using both classroom training and hands-on lab experience, students should feel right at home after they graduate and get a job.

The Associate in Medical Assisting will also expand on subjects like:

  • Patient Preparation
  • Preparing Patients for exams and treatment
  • Filing Medical Records
  • Handling Insurance Forms
  • Scheduling Appointments

 

In addition to course work, the Medical Assisting program provides students with an externship which will allow them to work alongside doctors and nurses while gaining hands on experience before graduation.

Skills based certifications are a good way to differentiate yourself from other medical assisting job applicants. A certification means that you’ve passed a board-sanctioned test or have demonstrated expertise in a certain medical process.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found that medical assistants with formal training and certifications should have the best job opportunities, since employers generally prefer to hire these workers.(1)

We believe that obtaining a medical assistant certification demonstrates a willingness to learn and achieve on the graduate’s end and assures employers that Remington College graduates received an education that has prepared them for entry-level employment as a medical assistant.(2)

Certifications Available to Our Medical Assisting Students

Your tuition for the Medical Assisting program includes the cost of your first attempt at the Certified Clinical Medical Assisting (CCMA) exam as well as the cost for the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Job Outlook for Medical Assistants

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), medical assisting careers are projected to grow much faster than average over the 2014 through 2024 decade, with a 23 percent job growth forecast.(1,2)

 

A medical assisting diploma and certification may help your prospects even more, according to the BLS report: ‘Job opportunities should be excellent, particularly for those with formal training or experience, and certification.’

Do I need to Be Certified?

Certification as a medical assistant is not required, but it may give a resume a nice enhancement. And according to the BLS, “Employers prefer to hire certified assistants.”(1,2)
