Lafayette's healthcare field is growing ' will you be ready?

By Remington College Posted January 22, 32019

When you're sick or hurt, a trip to the doctor's office or the emergency room can make you feel a lot better'but it's not just the doctor treating you you'll want to thank.

There are dozens of people behind the scenes who make sure doctor's offices or hospitals run smoothly. Think about the attendant at the front desk who checks you in, the person in the billing department who takes down your insurance information, or the medical assistant who takes your vitals. And how would you be able to get your prescriptions filled without a pharmacy technician?

Now, more than ever, the healthcare industry is growing. In fact, healthcare is now the U.S.' largest employer. As baby boomers continue to age and medical spending increases, it's predicted the healthcare industry will add around 4 million new jobs by 2026, accounting for almost a third of total job growth.

The trend can be seen in Louisiana, as well.  The Lafayette, Louisiana, area is seeing this growth first hand, with the recent opening of Acadia General Hospital's new Emergency Department.

That means there are new employment opportunities opening for qualified job seekers, and Remington College Lafayette Campus offers the training to help students find jobs in the healthcare field.1

If you're interested in a hands-on job assisting in treating patients, Remington College Lafayette Campus offers a medical assistant associate degree. Students can gain valuable practice and skills in everything from taking vitals to performing injections. You'll even have the opportunity to work in an in-field externship2, alongside healthcare professionals and earn a medical assistant certification.

Remington College's pharmacy technician diploma and associate degree is another option for students who want a hands-on experience. Throughout the pharmacy tech programs, students will study the valuable skills they may need in the field and get real-life practice with an externship opportunity.2

If you would rather work in an administrative role, a medical billing and coding diploma might be right for you.  Study basic medical terminology and get experience in medical front-office and back-office skills. Students who participate in this program are encouraged to take the medical billing and coding certification exam. Another option is the medical office administration diploma program. This program is designed to help prepare students for a position as an administrative medical assistant, medical office administrator, or medical billing or collections specialist.

All of these jobs can play a vital part of keeping medical offices and hospitals running smoothly'and helping patients get the care they need. As the field continues to grow, that's not going to change.
