Employment opportunities in the restaurant, retail and hospitality industry in Shreveport

 In Hospitality

Shreveport, Louisiana is a vibrant city with plenty to do for leisure or business travelers. With riverboat casinos floating on the Red River, beautiful pieces featured at the R.W. Norton Art Gallery and captivating exhibits at the Sci-Port Discovery Center, it’s no surprise the city gets its share of visitors; in fact, it received more than 2.2 million visitors in 2016.

Shreveport has over 10,000 hotel rooms and many entertainment venues, including a horse racing track, six casinos, 50 family attractions and over 55 festivals or annual events. The city hosts four Southeast Tourism Society Top 20 events and two American Bus Association Top 100 events. Another notable event? Mardi Gras! One of the city’s most popular attractions, the celebration sparks concerts, food events and more.

Want to be part of the fun? If you’re looking for a unique career where you can meet people from around the world and every day comes with exciting challenges to tackle, the hospitality industry could be a great place to start. Both the food service manager and lodging manager fields are expected to grow from 2016 to 2026, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 2

Although it’s possible to find employment opportunities in these fields with a high school diploma and several years’ experience, it could be beneficial to register for job training programs at local trade schools. Earning a degree from a technical school can provide you with the information you might need on the job.1
