As a paralegal, you may be qualified to provide help to a wide spectrum of an organization’s legal needs. While paralegals are found in many different companies, most are employed by law firms, corporate legal departments and government offices.

Our flexible, online Paralegal Associate Degree Program provides a curriculum that includes studies within many of these areas of law.

Need for Skilled Paralegals is Growing

Paralegal employment is projected to grow much faster than average as employers seek candidates with the fundamental knowledge and skills to assist lawyers with a wide variety of tasks. For example, paralegals may assist lawyers prepare for closings, hearings, trials, and corporate meetings. Paralegals might also investigate the facts of cases and ensure that all relevant information is gathered. Additionally, they research laws, judicial decisions, legal articles, and other materials that are relevant to assigned cases.(1)

Program Summary

Paralegals typically assist attorneys in conducting legal research and analysis, drafting legal documents, preparing for trial, maintaining client files, and performing related tasks and duties. The Paralegal Associate ’s Degree Program includes specific, in - depth professional courses, as well as general education courses. The Program provides training in legal research and writing, civil litigation and trial preparation, business and contracts law, bankruptcy law, family and probate law, real estate law, and legal liability and ethics. The objective of this Program is to help prepare graduates for entry - level positions as paralegals to assist lawyers in law firms, corporations, and government agencies. This Program requires completion of a minimum of 90 quarter credit hours (66 quarter credit hours in associate or lower - level coursework and 24 quarter credit hours in general education coursework). Specific entrance requirements and prerequisites are in the “Admissions Requirements” section of this Catalog. Program completion normally requires 18 months for full - time students. The Program is delivered in a system of six three - month quarters. Upon successful completion of all areas of this Prog ram, graduates will be awarded an Associate of Science Degree in Paralegal (except for graduates from the state of Tennessee, who will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Paralegal).
