Our Medical Assisting with Limited Scope X-Ray Tech classes feature:

  • Four lecture rooms.
  • Two computer labs.
  • Separate clinical labs for X-ray hands-on instruction.

The average class size for the program is about 15 students, which may allow more opportunities for one-on-one instruction and support.

You have access to two X-ray tables and standing units that include a collimator, 18 view boxes, and two digital X-ray simulators. Wall units are also provided to train in proper positioning for skull, facial, pelvic, extremity, and spinal X-rays.

Our instructors use various X-ray films to show what various injuries and deformities look like. They also show you how to collimate and adjust light to produce the best possible film.

Located in the Medical Assisting X-ray tech (limited scope) lecture room is another digital simulator and X-ray view boxes to integrate lecture and lab as the instructor teaches.

Our Fort Worth Medical Assisting with limited scope X-ray tech training program can help you to prepare for the following certification exams offered in the state of Texas:(2)

  • Guest speakers from the UNT Health Science Center Willed Body Program, World of Wellness Chiropractic, Sickle Cell Disease Association of Tarrant County, and other local organizations.
  • Local charitable events like the Cooks Children Hospital bone marrow drives and Carter Blood Care blood drives.
  • Quarterly mock clinics, when new students pose as patients and students including those from the limited scope X-ray tech program perform many of the skills they are learning in class.
  • Externship sites that work specifically with our Fort Worth Medical Assisting with X-Ray (Limited Scope) Tech students include Health Body Chiropractic, Texas Back Care, Texas Health Center, Medical Clinic of North Texas, and more.(2)

In fact, some of our past graduates are employed at local organizations including UNT Health Science Center, JPS Health Network, Baylor Medical, Carter Blood Care, North Tarrant Family Practice, and Levy Pediatrics.(1)

Program Summary

The Medical Assisting with X-Ray Tech (Limited Scope) Diploma Program provides training in administrative and clinical procedures, including limited radiography. The objective of this Program is to prepare graduates for entry-level positions such as medical assistant, medical administrative assistant, or clinical medical assistant in work locations such as hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, medical supply businesses, and home health agencies. The Program may lead to entry-level positions as Non-Certified Radiologic Technicians. Students are prohibited from performing radiologic procedures which have been identified as dangerous or hazardous in accordance with Section 143.16 of Title 25, Texas Administrative Code (relating to Dangerous or Hazardous Procedures) unless they become an LMRT, MRT or practitioner, refer to Section 143.17(f) (11) (B).

Program completion normally requires 12 months for full-time students. The Program is divided into 12 monthly academic periods (modules) comprised of 11 months of classroom and laboratory instruction and one externship period.

In order to be eligible for the externship period, students must successfully complete all courses in the academic periods and must have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.

Upon successful completion of all areas of this Program, graduates will be awarded a Diploma in Medical Assisting with X-Ray Tech (Limited Scope). Graduates may be eligible to apply for the Non-Certified Radiologic Technician Registry (NCT Registry) through the Texas Medical Board. A record of criminal activity may impact/limit a graduate’s ability to be listed on the NCT Registry in Texas. A disclosure/caution to prospective students is available from Admissions Department.
